This paper is based on the data of the quantitative research conducted by the research team affiliated with Menassat Center for Research and Social Studies on the reality of individual freedoms in Morocco. The research revealed a set of changes and transformations that have affected Moroccan society in relation to the issue of individual freedoms. The most prominent of these changes is reflected in the emergence of a gap between Moroccans’ practice of their individual freedoms on the one hand, and their justified and legitimizing awareness of those freedoms on the other. The paper focuses in particular on the contribution of religious policies to the emergence of this paradox, and also proposes possible alternatives to bridge this gap between Moroccans’ practices and discourses regarding individual freedoms
